Jennifer Abernathy, a midfielder for the Golden Eagles women's soccer team, was named the co-offensive player of the week by the Southland Conference. She is being honored for her weekend performance in a pair of Golden Eagle overtime victories.
Abernathy, a junior from Broken Arrow, recorded three assists in two victories at McNeese State and Nicholls State this past weekend.
On Friday at McNeese, she set up the game winning goal in the 97th minute off the foot of Whitney Booth. Two days later, in double-overtime against Nicholls, Abernathy snuck a pass by the keeper for Megan Giles' game-winner in the 102nd minute.
The junior, who shared the honor with Stephen F. Austin's Kylie Louw, also earned an assist earlier in the match on a goal scored by Kayla Keller that tied the match.
This week's award was the second consecutive week in which Abernathy was honored as one of the conference's top offensive players.
The Golden Eagles (10-4-2) enter the final homestand of the season on Friday afternoon as they host Lamar is a battle for the second place spot in the conference standings. Prior to the game, four Golden Eagle seniors will be honored as a part of senior day activities.
