Tulsa Volleyball Cruises To Easy Win Over Tulane

The Golden Hurricane had no trouble sweeping the Green Wave in straight sets.

Senior Tyler Henderson slammed 18 kills and freshman Ashley Hooper added 13 kills to power the University of Tulsa volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-22) victory over Tulane Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Hurricane (15-8, 8-1 C-USA) held the Green Wave (4-16, 2-7 C-USA) to 25 kills and a .026 hitting percentage for the match. TU hit .244 and tallied 44 kills, and posted 39 assists and 60 digs to Tulane's 23 assists and 50 digs.

Hooper hit .579, with just two errors in 19 attempts, and Henderson hit .424 – her second straight match with a hitting percentage above .400.

Senior Jordan Clampitt earned her second consecutive double-double, and her eighth of theseason, with 22 assists and 13 digs. Senior Diana Silva led TU with 16 digs and Senior Jessica Adams added 14 digs for the Hurricane.

Sophomore Carly Boatwright tallied five blocks and Henderson added four blocks, as the Hurricane out-blocked the Wave, 7.0-6.0.

The Hurricane opened the match with a 5-0 run, but following a timeout the Green Wave scored the next four points. Tulsa then went on a 20-9 run through the rest of the set to hang on to the lead and claim the frame, 25-13. Henderson slammed 10 kills and hit .562, leading TU to 18 total kills and a team hitting percentage of.319 in the set. Tulsa also converted 69 percent of its sideout opportunities and held Tulane to eight kills and a .045 attack percentage.

The score was tight early in the second set, and the Green Wave broke an 8-8 tie with three consecutive points. The Hurricane responded by scoring the next seven points, and closed with a 17-3 run to win the set, 25-14. Silva had eight digs and Hooper tallied five kills for TU. Henderson finished off the stanza by serving two straight aces.

The third set was a back and forth battle with 10 ties and five lead changes. With the score knotted at 22-22, Tulsa got a Henderson kill, Tulane attack error, and a bloc from Henderson and Boatwright to win the set. The Clampitt sisters combined for a total of 14 assists, tallying seven each. Henderson and Hooper hit six and four kills, respectively, and Adams had six digs.

Tulsa takes on SMU in Dallas on October 19 at 7:00 pm.
