Sticky soda pop is now being named as a contributing factor to the seats that have been shaking loose on American Airlines jets.

Engineers now say a tiny pin that holds the seats to the floor got gummed up, from years of wear, tear, and spills.

American is now doubling up on the seat clamps on board its 757s.

"We're going through the fleet and we're adding an additional locking feature on top of this that we believe will prevent this from happening again," said David Campbell, Vice President of Safety, Security and Environmental for American Airlines.

The airline should finish installing the additional clamps by Saturday.

So far, American has discovered 22 failed clamps.
