Getting kids involved in reading brought leaders from around the community together Thursday.
It was part of a nationwide project called "Read for the Record," an effort to set the world record for the greatest number of people reading the same book at the same time.
The project focuses on the importance of early childhood education.
Kids at the Skelly early childhood center got a little help from Tulsa Police.
Organizers say the earlier a child opens a book, the better.
"Just by spending 20 minutes a day reading to a child, you can really help ensure that they enter kindergarten prepared to succeed," said Linda Brock, of the Community Action Project.
More than 2,000 kids in Oklahoma participated in the event.
