The Oral Roberts women's soccer team was looking to get the 2012 season off to a positive start, but instead, just found heartbreak.
North Texas' Karla Pineda scored from 25 yards out with 7:29 remaining in the second overtime period to give the Mean Green a 2-1 win over the Golden Eagles Friday night.
Oral Roberts got the scoring going early when Shelbi Lousch scored from just inside the box to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
North Texas countered with a goal of their own from Kelsey Hodges in the 20th minute to knot the score at one.
From that point on, it was a defensive struggle, with neither team able to break through and break the tie.
North Texas had 19 shots to just 12 for Oral Roberts, but the Mean Green had just six of those shots on goal, while the Golden Eagles had four.
The Golden Eagles will take on University of Missouri-Kansas City Sunday afternoon in Kansas City. The Roos nearly pulled off an upset of No. 5 Oklahoma State Friday night.
