The Cherry Berry in Broken Arrow donated 10% of its proceeds Tuesday to the Food Bank's "backpack program".

The money helps pack bags full of food that kids take home on Fridays all year long.

Needy kids often go hungry on the weekends when school's out, so "Food for Kids" helps fill in the gaps.

"It's our kids in Broken Arrow that are hungry,' said Dr. Doris Smith, the Broken Arrow Food for Kids director. "So we're the ones that need to support it. So businesses are sending their kids to school too and they support the school system."

Last school year, 542 Broken Arrow students went home with backpacks full of food on Fridays.
