Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart has confirmed deputies have made an arrest in the death of 31-year-old man, CBS Fort Smith affiliate KFSM reports.

James Arthur Moffett, 33, was arrested for negligent homicide in the death of Stanley Leon Ross, the station said.

According to Lockhart, Ross was found shot and killed outside of his home Saturday night.

The shooting happened in the driveway of a mobile home about seven miles north of Vian on Vian Creek Road.

Someone from the home called 911 and reported the shooting about 7:15 p.m.

Lockhart said the man was dead when deputies arrived, and he was shot once in his upper body.

Lockhart said several people at the scene were being questioned by Sequoyah County deputies. Moffett, who was still on the scene when the deputies arrived, was arrested for public intoxication. They waited until he was no longer under the influence of alcohol to question him, Lockhart said.

"After interviewing several witnesses and collecting the evidence, Mr. Moffett was also arrested for negligent homicide," Lockhart said.

Moffett is being held at the Sequoyah County Detention Center, without bond.

Moffett previously has been convicted of second-degree burglary, illegally possessing firearms, assault and battery and multiple drug and alcohol offenses.
