Pittsburg County-Brewed Beer Takes Silver Medal At World Beer Cup

An Oklahoma-based beer has taken a silver medal in the American-Style Wheat Beer category at the 2012 Brewers Association World Beer Cup.

The 1919 brew is named for Pietro "Pete" Piegari, the original brew master who created the first Choc beer in 1919 and eventually opened "Pete's Place" restaurant in Krebs.

According to a news release Choc brand beer is brewed at the brewery in Krebs.

"Choc 1919 is a tribute to Pietro Piegari and has become a favorite across Oklahoma and beyond," said Zach Prichard, president of Choc Beer Company and great-grandson of Piegari.

The Brewers Association is the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American brewers.

Choc Beers are available in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama and the Florida panhandle.

Almost 800 breweries from 54 countries competed in this year's World Beer Cup.
