An Oklahoma Army National Guard soldier credited with saving the lives of his fellow Guardsmen during a firefight in Afghanistan last summer will receive be awarded the Bronze Star Saturday morning in Tulsa.
The National Guard says the ceremony will take place at Oral Roberts University's Mabee Center at 10 a.m.
In a news release from the National Guard, says the Bronze Star Medal will include the "V" device. The "V" indicates the valorous act performed by an individual Service member.
In addition, five soldiers wounded during operations in Afghanistan will be receiving Purple Hearts.
Major General Myles Deering, the adjutant general for Oklahoma and Col. Joel Ward, commander of the 45th Infantry Battalion Combat Team will present the medals.
