An Arkansas man was arrested Thursday evening in rural Pittsburg County after he allegedly tried to run over a sheriff's deputy.

The sheriff's office says William Gregory, 39, of Glenwood, Arkansas was pulled over by the deputy because of a traffic violation in Longtown.

During the traffic stop, the sheriff's office says Gregory tried to run over the deputy and then drove away.   The deputy fired shots at the pickup truck striking the truck multiple times.

The deputy was not injured.

After driving away, Gregory crashed his pickup truck and ran into a nearby wooded area.  He was apprehended a short time later.

Gregory was taken to the Pittsburg County jail in McAlester.
