Hundreds of homeless veterans were given a chance to get back on their feet. The Veteran's Administration Medical Center Homeless Program hosted an event called Stand Down for Homeless Vets.
It's a nationwide program but only the second one put on in Tulsa. Homeless vets were able to get free food, clothes, manicures and facials at First Baptist Church downtown.
About a dozen employers were there looking to hire some of the vets.
"The only reason we're here is because they served," said Melanie Goldman, VA Homeless Program Manager.
"They sacrificed for us and so we feel privileged that we're able to serve them."
Goldman says the Veteran Affairs Secretary's goal is to end vet homelessness by 2015.
