The Cherokee Nation officially opened its new Cherokee National Prison Museum Tuesday.

The prison museum was the only penitentiary building in Indian Territory from 1875 to 1901. Officials say the museum will tell the tale of Indian Territory justice.

In celebration of the grand opening, the Cherokee Nation is providing free admission to the Cherokee National Prison Museum throughout the month of May.
