The Tulsa Drillers put together a bottom of the ninth rally to win 3-2 and complete the sweep of the Springfield Cardinals Monday afternoon.
With two on and one out, Tulsa's Mike Zuanich stepped to the plate. Before this game, Zuanich had no RBI and no home runs, but it didn't take long to change that. The count was 3-1 when Zuanich belted a three-run home run to centerfield to end the game and help the Drillers to its fourth-straight victory.
The Cardinals got on the board in the first. Oscar Taveras doubled to right then came home after Kyle Conley singled to left for a 1-0 lead.
The next run wouldn't score until the top of the seventh frame. With two on and two out Taveras connected for a grounder to center that scored Audry Perez from second.
Down 2-0 entering the ninth, the Drillers sent in Michael Marbry to the mound replacing. One fly-out and two ground-outs later the fate of the game was in the hands of the Tulsa offense.
Kiel Roling was drew a one-out walk before Kent Matthes was hit by a pitch. That set the stage for Zuanich. Two runners on base with one out. The left fielder connected on the long ball for his first home run of the year.
Tulsa is now 18-6, which tops the team's previous record of 16 wins in a month.
Drillers starter and Tulsa native Parker Frazier went five innings allowing five hits and one run while Springfield's starter Michael Blazek pitched six innings allowing two hits and striking out two.
Marbry is credited with the win thanks to an inning of solid relief for Tulsa. He is now 2-0 on the season.
Tulsa was also led offensively by catcher Lars Davis who was 3-for-3 from the plate on the afternoon.
The Drillers now prepare for a four game road series against Arkansas with game one set for Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.
