After sweeping a doubleheader Saturday, the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles fell to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Sunday 3-1 to close out the weekend series.
SDSU starter Layne Somsen (1-2) picked up his first win of the season by locking down the Golden Eagles' bats. The right-handed pitcher gave up just two hits without an earned run in eight innings pitched, striking out eight ORU batters.
The Jackrabbits did all of their offensive work in the first two innings and managed to lock down the Golden Eagles from there.
Beau Hanowski singled to lead off the game and advanced to third thanks to a throwing error on an attempted sacrifice bunt. Zach Rhodes singled to center field to bring Hanowski home to take a 1-0 advantage.
South Dakota State hung two more runs on the board in the second inning, sparked by a leadoff double from Daniel Mara to push the lead to 3-0.
Oral Roberts will not have a mid-week matchup due to finals, and will be back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday against Mississippi Valley State for a doubleheader.
