'More Cops, More Stops' Nets 10 Alcohol-Related Arrests In Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow police are calling a sobriety checkpoint a success after detaining 154 drivers out of a total of 790 motorists stopped.

The checkpoint was in the 2400 block of West Kenosha from 10:30 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, according to Sergeant Ed Ferguson of the Broken Arrow Police Department.

Officers made 10 alcohol-related arrests with eight people taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Two people were arrested for public intoxication.

Three drivers were taken into custody for driving under revocation or suspension. One person was arrested for possession of marijuana.

"Officers issued a total of 137 traffic citations for various offenses, including 53 for no insurance and two for transporting an open container of alcohol," Ferguson said in a news release.

The sobriety checkpoint was part of the regional "More Cops, More Stops" traffic safety initiative. In addition to the BAPD, Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Creek Nation Police and the ABEL Commission organizations participated in the stops.

There were a total of 57 officers assigned to the initiative.
