A Tulsa Fire captain resigned Friday after being charged with animal cruelty.

Authorities say he shot and killed a neighbor's dog. Randy C. Shipman is alleged to have killed a boxer with a BB gun, according to court documents.

The neighbors, Amanda Baker and Tony Reeves, have filed a lawsuit again Shipman in Tulsa County court. They say Shipman opened fire on their Broken Arrow property on "multiple occasions," hitting out buildings, a swimming pool and the family dog, a beige boxer.

The lawsuit seeks civil relief more than $10,000.

Shipman had been put on administrative leave on April 9.

Shipman has been with the TFD for 18 years.

He was released on $4,000 bond Friday.
