Mighty nice day today. Notice the map on the right, courtesy of the OK Mesonet, which shows the high/low temperatures as of late this afternoon. After the very cool start this morning, the sunny skies and light winds allowed temperatures to rebound rather nicely this afternoon. For tonight, fair skies but a light southerly breeze should keep us a bit milder to start the day Sunday with morning temperatures generally in the 40s. The fair skies should also allow for good viewing of the Lyrid meteor shower early Sunday morning.
But, a re-enforcing surge of cool, dry air will be arriving first thing in the morning along with brisk northerly winds throughout the day Sunday. Sunny skies with just a few high clouds should offset those northerly winds enough for daytime highs to be similar to today with temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70. Clear skies and light winds again Sunday night will result in another very cool start to Monday morning with lower 40s for most of us and some upper 30s possible in the cooler valleys.
Sunny skies and a light northerly wind will result in another day much like today for Monday with highs back to near the 70 degree mark. After that, a return to southerly winds will start warming us back up with highs well into the 70s by Tuesday and lower 80s on Wednesday.
The next frontal boundary looks to be rather weak but now appears to have enough of a push to make it to near I-40 during the day Thursday. The boundary in the area also means more cloud cover which should keep daytime temperatures generally in the 70s for the latter part of the week. There will also be a chance of showers and storms for Thursday, Friday, and perhaps into the day Saturday. Right now, this does not appear to be a major storm system, but given the time of year anytime there is a chance of storms, it has to be monitored closely.
In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful Spring weather, stay tuned, and check back for updates.
