BOSTON – There were plenty of people running in the Boston Marathon on Monday, but one Oklahoman was running for a special cause.
Maj. Dan Rooney of Broken Arrow, founder and president of the Folds of Honor Foundation, finished the Boston Marathon today in a time of 03:53:02.
He ran to raise money and awareness for his foundation, which provides scholarships to children of veterans killed or wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Rooney asked people to support his cause by being a "wingman," and donating as little as $26.20 (or one dollar per mile).
The upcoming Patriot Cup will also bring PGA golfers, celebrities and big-name entertainment to the state next month for one of the foundation's biggest fundraisers.
