Been too busy to write one of these last few days. Quite a weekend, but fortunately, things have settled down considerably for at least a couple of days. You may recall at this time last week, we were talking about what an unsettled week we were facing. Well, the map on the right, courtesy of the OK Mesonet, shows the total rainfall over the last 7 days and much of the state has received a pretty good soaking. Even the more drought stricken areas in far W OK and the Panhandle have received some beneficial rains.
Our next chance for showers or storms looks to be Thursday night and into the morning hours of Friday the way things are shaping up at this time. Between now and then, we are looking at some very pleasant weather with sunny skies and light winds for today, tonight, and Tuesday. Temperatures will be at or below normal for a change with a high today near 70 and back into the 40s again tonight.
Tuesday will see another sunny day with a light SE wind by afternoon which should get us into the low-mid 70s that afternoon after the cool morning start. We will be much warmer on Wednesday with gusty SW winds, lots of sunshine, and afternoon temperatures likely in the lower 80s. Our nights will also be getting warmer as the week wears on with morning lows in the 50s Wed morning and near 60 for Thursday morning.
The next cool front is still on schedule to arrive Thu night bringing a chance of showers/storms which may extend into Friday morning. Given the time of year, some of those storms may be severe but this system should be moving on through fairly quickly with clearing skies by Friday afternoon. That should set the stage for a relatively cool, pleasant weekend.
The upper level flow which governs our changing weather patterns looks to become highly amplified going into that following week. If that does indeed materialize, that should keep us with pleasant, stable weather going into the following week. When that pattern breaks down though usually leads to a much more unsettled situation for us though so by the first part of May it could be getting interesting again.
In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
