The Tulsa football team will wrap up its spring practices Saturday with the annual TU Spring Game.
Since March 6, the team has been preparing for the 2012-13 season with a total of 15 days of spring practice.
One of the key areas of spring practice for the Golden Hurricane has been narrowing down who will replace G.J. Kinne at quarterback.
Tulsa has four scholarship quarterbacks in camp and several walk-ons that have been competing for the starting spot.
During last Saturday's scrimmage, Kalen Henderson and Cody Green handled much of the quarterback duties.
"For us, really, it has come down to Kalen and Cody being our lead guys (at the quarterback position)," said TU head coach Bill Blankenship after the scrimmage last Saturday."They've been fighting it out this week. Different days have gone to different guys. Today, I thought execution-wise they were about the same. Kalen had more big plays today, and ultimately you measure a quarterback by getting his team in the end zone."
TU returns six starters to the offensive unit and defensively return seven. Other key areas that need filled are at linebacker with the loss of leading tackler Curnelius Arnick and Tyrunn Walker's slot at defensive end.
Saturday's Spring Game will also have a handful of family activities that begin at 11:30 a.m. Inflatable games and concessions as well as live entertainment will be available on the west side of the stadium at Thomas Plaza.
An Easter Egg Hunt for kids in the 5th grade and under will start at 12:30 p.m.
Admission to the Spring Game is free and it will kickoff at 1p.m.
Tulsa finished the 2011 campaign with an overall 8-5 record and 7-1 in Conference USA play. TU opens the 2012-13 season on Sept.1 at Iowa State, then the Golden Hurricane returns home Sept. 8 for its home opener against Tulane.
