Tulsa police say high speeds and the use of alcohol were a deadly combination in a wreck early Sunday that killed a U.S. Army veteran.
Samuel Dash, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Brian Cripps, 28, is in critical condition after their SUV left the Broken Arrow Expressway and rolled at about 1:30 a.m.
Justin Gibson, 25, was treated and released from a Tulsa hospital.
Both Cripps and Gibson were Marines in the Broken Arrow unit.
The SUV was exiting westbound BA Expressway at Sheridan Road when Cripps lost control of the vehicle, according to Sergeant Darren Bristow with the Tulsa Police Department. The SUV hit a couple of poles then went into a roll as it left the off ramp.
"One person inside the vehicle was ejected," Bristow said. "The other two had to be extricated from the vehicle with the jaws of life by the Tulsa Fire Department.
"Alcohol is going to be a factor in this, as well as the speed on the curve of the Broken Arrow Expressway."
Dash was a veteran, having served in Iraq in the U.S. Army.
