SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – It's a tough day for a team when a player has two home runs and they still lose.
Oral Roberts' Jose Trevino sent two over the fence on Sunday against Missouri State, but he had no help from his supporting cast in a 3-2 loss.
Not only did no other ORU player drive in a run, but only one other player (Brandon King) even had a hit on the day.
Alex Gonzalez got the start and was solid on the mound for Oral Roberts, throwing 7.1 innings and giving up one earned run on five hits.
Missouri State first took the lead with an RBI double in the first inning, and added two more thanks to errors from ORU players in third inning to make it 3-0.
Trevino's first solo shot of the day cut the lead down to 3-1 and later got his team back to within a run after another solo homer but could never close the gap completely.
ORU fell to 9-10 on the season and dropped three of four to Missouri State over the weekend.
The Golden Eagles will begin a three game series against No. 11 Cal State Fullerton on Thursday. First pitch is set for 8 p.m.
