CLEVELAND, Oklahoma -- It's not often that armed robbery happens on the streets of small-town Cleveland, Oklahoma.
But police there are looking for two men, who they say approached a man in his vehicle about 8:40 p.m. Sunday night, stole his money at gunpoint and hit him with a club before fleeing southbound on Oklahoma 64.
"This just doesn't happen here," Cleveland Police Sergeant Robert Stephens said. "It has been 5-10 years, well, since the On Cue [convenience store] was robbed. And before that, even longer."
Stephens said the victim, who is a Mannford resident, was parked on Broadway Street in Cleveland outside of Continental Credit, where he was going to drop off a payment. The victim was approached by two men driving a Blue GMC Yukon with a green driver's door.
A white male exited the Yukon, approached the victim and yanked him out of his car, according to police.
"A revolver was pointed at him, and he was told to give them his wallet or they would shoot him," Stephens said.
As the victim was getting back into his car, the Hispanic male hit him with a club and warned him not to call police, Stephens said.
Police say the robbers stole the man's wallet, $300 in cash and the money order he was dropping off at Continental Credit.
The scene of the robbery took place around the corner, about one block from the police station.
If you have any information about this Pawnee County crime or the whereabouts of the robbers, you are encouraged to call the Cleveland Police Department at 918-358-3112.
Police are looking for a clean-shaven white male, about 6-foot-3, tall/skinny build with short, brown hair, who was last seen wearing a black ball cap, red t-shirt and blue jeans. He also has a tattoo of a woman on his left forearm.
The Hispanic male is described as being 5-foot-8, stocky/muscular build with short, black hair and clean-shaven, and he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts.
The victim's injury wasn't enough to warrant medical attention, the officer said.
