Wrong-Way Driver Sentenced To Prison For Killing Motorcyclist In Owasso

A Tulsa man will be serving 12 years of a 15-year sentence for 1st degree manslaughter in connection to a fatal traffic crash in May 2011.

A judge sentenced Juan Ochoa-Ruiz to prison on Thursday.

In January 2012, Ochoa-Ruiz entered a blind plea. He was charged with driving the wrong way on Highway 169 at 76th Street North and hitting a motorcycle driven by Iain Bell.

Bell died at the scene.

The judge gave Ochoa-Ruiz 10 years for the manslaughter.  He was also sentenced to one year each for unlawful possession of a controlled drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The other three years of his sentence were deferred.
