American Airlines workers in Tulsa say they are stepping up efforts to save hundreds of Tulsa area jobs that are on the bankrupt company's chopping block.

Tuesday morning they began printing around 500 yard signs supporting the union's campaign website, www.isupportamericanjobs.com.  The website asks visitors to sign an on-line petition of support for American Airlines' operations in Tulsa.

More than 15,000 people have signed that petition so far.

American's parent company, AMR, filed for bankruptcy protection at the end of November.

On February 1, 2012, AMR said it was planning to cut 13,000 jobs company-wide, including some 2,100 jobs at Tulsa's American Airlines maintenance base. The union countered with an offer last week which the Transport Workers Union hoped would reduce the number of layoffs.
