Driver Arrested After Pickup Hits Tulsa Utility Pole, Burns

Tulsa Police say it appears 33-year-old Robert Lowery lost control of his truck and hit a utility pole near 31st and Utica around 11:30 p.m. causing a transformer to fall onto the truck.

A pickup truck caught fire after striking a utility pole late Sunday night in Tulsa and the driver was arrested Monday morning on complaints of DUI, suspended driver's license and speeding. 

Tulsa Police say 33-year-old Robert Lowery lost control of his truck and hit a utility pole near 31st and Utica around 11:30 p.m. causing a transformer to fall onto the truck.

Police say the transformer caught the truck on fire.  

By the time they arrived, the driver was gone.  They say Lowery came back to the scene about 40 minutes later with his mother and admitted he had been drinking.  Officers say he told them he left the scene because he was scared.  

Lowery posted bond and was released from the Tulsa County jail.  His next court appearance is February 16, 2012.
