Rogers County Man Arrested For Theft Of Metal From Railroad

An Inola man is behind bars after a deputy spotted the man's truck loaded with metal plates near the site of a train derailment in rural Rogers County.

The deputy pulled the truck over at 3 a.m. Wednesday because he thought it was suspicious.

The man, identified as 56-year-old Robert Lowther, told the deputy he had permission to remove the metal from the derailment site along state Highway 88.

After checking with Union Pacific railroad and learning that was not the case, the deputy arrested Lowther and took him to the Rogers County jail in Claremore.

On January 23, 2012, twelve cars of a Union Pacific train derailed just before midnight near Inola.

No one was injured and it took Union Pacific about a day to repair the damage to the tracks and remove the damaged railroad cars.
