A 24-year-old man is dead after a shooting in a downtown parking lot. Tulsa police were notified early Saturday that the shooting victim died of his wounds.

He has been identified as Byron James Ivory.

Police were called to the 1800 block of South Baltimore at 1:45 a.m. after shots were reported in the area. They found Ivory lying next to his car. At least 15 bullet casings were discovered at the scene.

Investigators learned that just before the shooting there was an armed robbery outside a club at 1800 S. Boston. The robbery victim was lured to the alley behind the bar and robbed by several men, according to Tulsa Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker.

Police say one of the suspects in the armed robbery ran in the direction of the fatal shooting.

That suspect is described as a black male, 5'9" to 5'11" in height. He weighs 160 to 180 pounds and had dreadlocks to his shoulders. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans.

"During the robbery, he was armed with a semi automatic handgun," Walker said in a news release.

"We are not sure that the two events are related other than they happened about the same times."

The other suspects fled in a late model silver Ford Fusion with temporary paper tags.

It is the third homicide in Tulsa for 2012, Walker said.

"We have located two additional witnesses that indicate the motive for the murder is robbery. We are currently working on leads, but have nothing new to report at this time," Sergeant Walker said late Saturday.

Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-2677, the Homicide Tip Line at 918-798-8477 or email homicide@cityoftulsa.org.
