Now that we know what changes American's management wants to make, members of the Transport Workers Union have their take.

A cloud of confusion has continued to surround American ever since their decision to file for bankruptcy back in November. And following Wednesday's announcement, it's sure to continue until the dust settles.

Rick Mullings is the Union organizer for the Transport Workers Union in Tulsa. He says bankruptcy has been on the minds of employees ever since the filing of other airlines following 9/11.

"What they're doing is what everybody else did, they're finally getting to that point," Mullings said.

America Airlines avoided bankruptcy back in 2003 by working with the union and making cuts to the maintenance department.

"I never felt like this bankruptcy was necessary, it's just the easy way out," Mullings said.

Now the maintenance department stands to lose thousands of jobs, and that has Mullings worried about American's long-term future.

"Most airline analysts will tell you that getting rid of heavy maintenance is not good for your airline in the long run, but these airlines haven't been concerned with the long run in quite some time," he said.

But support for the rank and file has continued to grow nationwide. They've gathered over 5,000 signatures online.

"These companies do make decisions off of public opinion," Mullings said.

And now all workers can do is wait.

"No matter what they announce today, that's not the end," he said.

Mullings believes support from the Tulsa community can have a big influence on American's actions.
