Firefighter, Downtown Saved In Coffeyville Fire

COFFEYVILLE, Kansas -- Firefighters in Coffeyville, Kansas, rescue one of their own battling a business fire Saturday.

Fire destroyed the Second Blessings Resale Shop.

A firefighter fell through a floor in the two-story structure and had to be rescued.

He was okay, and no one else was injured.

Even though surrounding buildings are attached, firefighters kept the flames from spreading through the downtown square.

"Usually in a downtown fire it hops from one building to the next," said Chief James Grimmett of the Coffeyville Fire Department. "The guys were able to contain this to the original building, so I'm very proud of the guys."

The fire chief says the loss of a building is a blow to the city that is trying to revitalize its downtown.
