A Tulsa firefighter will be recognized for his service Saturday night. Tulsa Assistant Fire Marshal Tom Hufford – also known as Huffy the Clown – will receive the Jim Close Humanitarian Award from the Southwest Tulsa Chamber of Commerce.

Hufford works to raise awareness of fire safety by volunteering as an educational clown for the fire department.

He performs for children and adults at schools, churches, day care centers, safety fairs and other events. While entertaining the kids with magic, balloon twisting, skits and more, he teaches classes on all topics of public safety education.

As Marshal Tom, Hufford also has a 30-minute children's TV show on Tulsa Cable Channel 20. He reviews safety information for children with magic tricks and music.

The awards ceremony was to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, January 28. Other recipients of the Jim Close Humanitarian Award include Oklahoma House Speaker Chris Benge and the Reverend Willard Jones.
