TULSA, Oklahoma -- Kevin Swindell won his third straight Chili Bowl title Saturday night.
Swindell led all 55 laps, and becomes the first person in the history of the event to win it three times in a row.
His father, five-time Chili Bowl champion Sammy Swindell, finished second. Californian Kyle Larson came in third.
There were a few nationally-known racers in the finals: NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart finished 10th and NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. came in ninth.
It was a somber atmosphere at the QuikTrip Center, however. Earlier in the day, Tulsa-area driver Donnie Ray Crawford was shot and killed at his family home in Wagoner County.
He was scheduled to run in a qualifying race Saturday afternoon. Crawford was remembered in many ways throughout the night, including a poem, video tribute and his car pacing the field at the start of the final race.
