Blankenship was the PERFECT hire

Today is the one year anniversary of the Golden Hurricane hiring Bill Blankenship as its head football coach. I'm here to say, that was a slam dunk hire.

I thought it was a year ago. I still think that is a slam dunk.

He's not a ‘rah rah', in-your-face kind of coach. He's a quiet teacher. He will mentor and mold you. He will coax and persuade you into being more than you thought you could be.

He's the perfect guy for the job. Tulsa went 8-5 this season, but the teams they lost to were a combined 57-9. They were BETTER than the Tulsa team that went out and crushed Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl in 2010.

I have had the chance to meet with Blankenship numerous times since he took over as head coach. I come away impressed every time. He's confident and inspiring to young kids that believe they have a shot to win any and every game.

He told me this week that he wasn't thrilled with his 8-5 record. He thought that they had a chance to win every game on the schedule. He kept it close for a while with OSU, Houston and BYU.

I'm curious to see how the team fares next year now that Bill has a year of experience under his belt. He says he's excited about Year #2. I see great things ahead for TU football as long as Bill is in charge.
