The highs and lows of Tulsa's Wednesday night matchup against Houston were centered around free throws.
A Houston free throw with seven tenths of a second left in overtime gave the Cougars a 70-69 win over the Golden Hurricane.
Steven Idlet scored a jumper for Tulsa with 47 seconds left in regulation to give the Hurricane a 65-64 lead.
Houston's Jonathon Simmons was fouled and made two of his free throws to send the game to the extra frame.
Both teams struggled offensively in overtime, as all four of Tulsa's points were scored by D.J. Magley whose layup knotted the score at 69 with 12 seconds left.
Simmons hit the final free throw for Houston to cap the one point win, he finished with 19 points.
Idled totaled 22 points while Eric McClellan added 14 and Clarkson and Magley finished with 12 points a piece.
Tulsa shot 48 percent on the night , while Houston shot 47 percent from the field.
The Hurricane made 81 percent of its free throws, connecting on 13-of-16 foul shots. The Cougars made 26-of-35 free throws and had 32 rebounds compared to TU's 31 boards.
Tulsa dominated in the paint all night, scoring 52 points, but went scoreless from beyond the arc.
The Hurricane was down 14-10 early in the game, but used an 8-0 run to take an 18-14 lead with 7:58 to play before the break. The Hurricane held a 33-25 lead at the half.
Tulsa will play its conference opener Saturday Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. against SMU.
