FORT WORTH, Texas – The Golden Hurricane was able to end its nonconference slate – and the calendar year – on a good note.
Tulsa topped the TCU Horned Frogs 74-66 on Saturday evening on the road at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The game was actually tied at 66 with just less than two minutes remaining in the contest.
But Jordan Clarkson scored six of Tulsa's eight points as the Golden Hurricane pulled away in the end to move to 7-7 entering C-USA play.
TU held its largest lead of the night at 12 points soon after the second half began.
But TCU chipped away at the Tulsa lead slowly until the Horned Frogs took their first lead of the ballgame at 59-58 with 5:35 to play.
Eric McLellan immediately drained a three on the ensuing possession, however, to put Tulsa back on top for good.
Jordan Clarkson hit four free throws at the end of the game to seal the deal and tied a career-high with 23 points on the night.
TU shot 50 percent overall in the game and an impressive 61 percent in the second half. The Golden Hurricane also blocked a season-high 12 shots and won the rebounding battle.
Tulsa opens Conference USA play on Wednesday on the road at Houston. That game is set for 7 p.m.
