If you're thinking about welcoming 2012 with some fireworks, you might want to reconsider - or at least keep a water source handy.

Strong, gusty winds and low humidity levels are combining to create high fire danger for several Oklahoma counties. Wind gusts of 44 mph have been recorded in Skiatook and Bixby early Saturday afternoon, according to the Oklahoma Mesonet.

"The only real issue today is the high fire danger which will be created by gusty south and southwest winds which together with afternoon humidity levels dropping into the 20 percent range will make wildfires difficult to control," said WARN Team meteorologist Dick Faurot.

A fire weather watch is in effect through Saturday afternoon in Tulsa, Rogers, Mayes, Craig, Nowata, Ottawa and Creek counties.

A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for several counties including Tulsa, Rogers, Washington, Osage, Craig, Nowata and Mayes.

Motorists should be aware that strong wind gusts – especially cross winds on bridges and overpasses – may cause difficulties.
