New Club Opens For Tulsa Teens Who 'Krave' Nightlife

 A new night club is opening in South Tulsa just in time for New Year's Eve. But you won't see anyone popping champagne there because it's just for teens -- between the ages of 13 and 18. 

Krave Teen Town's opening night is Thursday, December 29. The owners gave us a sneak peek before it opened to talk about why they think Tulsa needs a place for kids with no alcohol, no smoking -- just pure fun. 

From the pulsing beats of Hollywood to the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip, teens see it all on television and "Krave" the excitement. 

"They're always looking for fun places to go, things to do," said Tracey Farmer, Krave Teen Town owner.

"They complain there's never anywhere to go. They all seem to hang out at parking lots and movie theaters. We just wanted to give them a place they can call their own."

Krave Teen Town owner Tracey Farmer set out to create a night time hot spot she'd feel comfortable letting her son go to with his friends. 

"Kids want to do what adults can do," she said. "That entices them to go places they shouldn't go, so why not bring them what we all like to do - without the cigarettes and alcohol?"

You won't find any of the sins of Sin City here, but there is a similar set-up, thanks to someone who's been part of Hollywood for 20 years.

"I've produced TV shows with Drew Barrymore and John Travolta," said James Orr, creator of Teen Town. "I've written screenplays for Shelley Winters and Shelley Duvall."

James Orr's opened clubs for teens around the country. His set-up includes a large dance floor with a stage and DJ booth plus a concession stand and gaming area. 

There's even a VIP room with couches and a karaoke stage. 

"We've incorporated the security as part of the fun of the place," he said. "We have security cameras throughout the whole club but they're also part of the dance floor. They can switch on the big screens, teens at home can tune in and see what their friends are doing."           

Farmer hopes Krave Teen Town becomes a place kids want to go -- and a club where parents feel safe dropping their kids off. 

"They like to go places that they have to put armbands on. We have to worry if someone's going to buy them a drink. Well here, we don't have to worry about that." 

Most of the marketing is done by a street team of teenagers who can earn pocket money while getting job experience. 

Krave Teen Town is located at 71st and Memorial in Tulsa in the same shopping center as Gold's Gym. It will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. until midnight.  

It costs $12 to get in. It's also available for special events like birthday parties.
