TULSA, Oklahoma – Not only did Tulsa debut its extravagant new video board on Saturday, but the team also gave the fans something exciting to watch on it.
The Golden Hurricane pulled past Texas-Arlington with an 80-75 overtime victory at the Reynolds Center, improving to 5-6 on the year.
TU got the job done with a balanced scoring attack, with five players in double figures.
Steven Idlet Scottie Haralson led all TU scorers with 15, but Jordan Clarkson was close behind with 14 and Eric McClellan and Tim Peete also reached double digits.
The game was close throughout, with neither team ever gaining a double-digit advantage. The teams were tied at the end of each half.
Tulsa actually held a nine-point lead with a little less than 13 minutes to play in the game, but a barrage of 3-pointers and free throws pulled the Mavericks right back into it.
The Mavs led the Golden Hurricane by four with less than 20 seconds to play in regulation, but Jordan Clarkson hit a jumper to cut the lead to two.
Cameron Catlett of UT-Arlington turned the ball over on the ensuing possession and a layup from Eric McClellan tied the game up with five seconds to play, forcing overtime.
Tulsa gained a small margin in overtime and began to hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the deal.
The Golden Hurricane outrebounded Texas-Arlington 45-30 and also racked up eight blocks in a solid defensive effort.
TU will host Creighton on Monday at 7 p.m.
