Large Selection Of Wigs Available For Tulsa Cancer Patients

This is a really busy season for families gearing up for Christmas. It can also be a difficult time for loved ones recently diagnosed with cancer.

The American Cancer Society has something cancer patients want that will help them look picture perfect this holiday.

Kelly Rapp lost her long flowing hair during chemotherapy treatments.

"I did, I lost it twice, because of the change of my treatment plan," said Kelly Rapp.

While fighting against breast cancer Rapp tried out head scarves, but eventually she wanted something more.

"My husband was going to tell me I looked wonderful no matter what. And I really wanted something other than his rose colored glasses to be looking at me to tell me the truth," said Kelly Rapp.

The truth is Rapp wanted to reclaim part of her look before losing her hair. She turned to her co-workers at the American Cancer Society for help.

Tracy Guara with the American Cancer Society says many women who lose their hair struggle to find the right wig, especially in time for the holidays.

"Holidays, a lot of families coming in. People are taking pictures. They may even hire professional photographers to get that once in a lifetime shot of the entire family together," said Tracy Guara.

And they want their picture to turn out nice. The American Cancer Society says it gets patients on a regular basis with this dilemma.

"We definitely are in need of those nice gently used wigs if not brand new," said Tracy Guara. "We will take either though synthetic or real."

The American Cancer Society says it appreciate the light colored wigs but it could use more of the dark colored wigs so that way it can meet the needs of all nationalities.

Kelly Rapp found a humorous way to deal with her chemo treatments. For one thing, you don't have to deal with your hair every day.

"There's all that upkeep in your hair. And the one thing they don't tell you is you don't have to shave your legs," said Kelly Rapp.
