Light winds, fair skies, and cool temperatures should make for some pleasant conditions for the Christmas parades this evening. Those same conditions may also result in patchy, freezing fog to start the day on Sunday. Don't think the fog will be as extensive as was the case this morning, but it is still a possibility. Any morning fog will be quickly burning off leaving fair skies for the morning hours followed by increasing mid to high level clouds during the afternoon. After that, sunshine will be hard to come by as cloudy to mostly cloudy skies will prevail through at least the middle part of the coming week.
Along with the clouds come increasing chances of rain and the potential for some embedded storms, particularly on Wednesday and through the overnight hours of Wednesday night. This looks to be a wet system as shown on the QPF map to the right in which most of our state should get a good soaking. There will also be a chance of a few showers on Monday and Tuesday and perhaps even a rumble or two of thunder.
The clouds, increasing moisture, and brisk southerly winds also add up to milder temperatures, particularly at night. It will be another cold night tonight with below freezing temperatures, but after that we will be much milder.
The rains should be coming to an end early Thursday morning with northerly winds and clearing skies that afternoon. Friday should be sunny and cool, but there is lots of uncertainty regarding the coming weekend. The longer range guidance is not very well in agreement with one having us cool and potentially wet and another having us milder and potentially wet. For now, will go with a cool solution and introduce at least a slight chance of precipitation. Notice I said precipitation as the thermal profile is very uncertain at this time. There is plenty of time between now and then for those details to sort themselves out.
In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
