A cold front is sliding southward across the state this morning and will bring us back down into the lower or mid 40s across northern OK with a mix of sun and clouds. No precipitation will occur with the boundary. Locations across southern OK may move into the upper 40s near 50 for the daytime high. The weekend appears cool and dry with temperatures below normal.
We've noticed a large stratus deck behind the boundary this morning across central Kansas and this deck is moving southward. Most of the data keeps this cloud deck away from the northeastern OK area, but our in-house data supports this deck to advance into our area around midday through early afternoon. I'll shoot the middle and call it a partly sunny day until the evidence becomes abundantly clear.
The extended data continues to suggest a slower and stronger looking system for Tuesday and Wednesday. This means daytime highs will move above normal for the early to mid portion of next week with morning lows in the 30s.
The pattern would suggest the potential for strong to near severe storms if low level moisture can become adequately deep. The jury is still out regarding this possibility, and it's still too early to pinpoint the exact timing of the system. The higher chances will more than likely occur around Wednesday and could linger into early Thursday as the front passes the region. As the south winds start to increase speeds Monday, a few scattered showers or iso storms may be possible and I've added a slight chance for the Monday period. Otherwise the pops from the previous few days will remain intact for the Tuesday and Wednesday period.
The EURO was suggesting another cold air mass arriving late next week. Stay tuned.
