When a family emergency arises, it can be a very frightening time for a child. But kids can now have a sense of comfort thanks to the kindness of strangers.
EMSA medics in Tulsa received thousands of teddy bears thanks to Midwest City High School students and the Oklahoma City Barons hockey team.
Paramedics say the bears are a valuable tool.
"I ask them; on your teddy bear can you show me where you hurt," said EMSA paramedic Danielle Cain. "It takes the strain off the situation, and makes them more comfortable with me, so that I can get a very more thorough assessment."
EMSA started the program a few years ago, and in the last year alone, the teddy bears helped comfort more than 3,000 kids under the age of 10.
