In case you did not notice, in the share section of newson6.com there are some photos of the snow that fell across the extreme SE counties. I was as surprised as they were as the pattern certainly did not suggest measurable snowfall by early this morning. Just goes to show how much we really don't know about Oklahoma weather. Anyway, now that we have had our first taste of wintry weather, it looks like things will be settling down for the rest of the week. Yes, we may see a few more flurries through tonight and into the day Tuesday, but that will be the extent of it. In fact, a look at the QPF map on the right, valid through Saturday morning, clearly shows we expect a dry forecast for the rest of the week.
However, the lingering cloud cover will be slow to clear out with a few breaks in the clouds expected during the day Tuesday and a clearing trend by Tuesday night. Brisk northerly winds will keep us quite chilly again Tuesday with morning lows in the 20s and daytime highs in the 30s. Temperatures Wed morning are dependent on how quickly the clouds clear out. Right now it looks to be clear so look for lows in the teens, if clouds are still lingering we would be in the lower 20s. A moot point perhaps as that is still well below normal. Lots of afternoon sunshine and a return to light southerly winds should get us to near 40 Wed afternoon and even milder on Thursday.
Another cold front will be arriving late Thursday followed by northerly winds and a brief cool-down for Friday into Saturday morning. This is just a glancing blow however, and southerly winds will be quickly returning as we go through the weekend. This should moderate temperatures to near normal levels just in time for the weekend. Any additional threat of precipitation is expected to hold off until early the following week, if then. Also, the pattern aloft suggests much of the following week should be much milder than what this week has been so no additional wintry precipitation is currently foreseen going into next week.
So, stay tuned and check back for updates.
