We're looking at a cool week with highs today in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Temperatures will be below normal this week, with the minor exception of a high near 56 Thursday before another upper level system arrives for the weekend with colder air and a chance of rain.
The upper air pattern is suggesting an upper level system will become cut off from the upper air flow just east of the region today and tomorrow before slowly moving eastward. This is a little unusual for the time of year, but the location of the system should keep most of the clouds to our east. Locations along the OK-Arkansas state line will see clouds, but all other locations will be in the sunshine for the day. Northwest winds around 10 mph will be common with highs today in the upper 40s near 50.
Another front will move across the area Tuesday with gusty northwest winds but no precipitation is expected. Very little cloud cover will be anticipated as the atmosphere will remain somewhat dry for the next several days. We also expect another cold front late Thursday afternoon or early evening, but again, no precipitation is expected.
As the weekend approaches, so will another strong looking upper air system. This will spread rain chances across the southern plains by Saturday evening into Sunday along with a surge of cold air Sunday into Monday. At this point, the cold air will not arrive in time to produce a significant chance of wintry precipitation. We'll be watching closely, but the cold air and the precip seem to be separated by a few hours, which would keep most of the system all liquid. We'll keep watching and posting updates accordingly.
The EURO would suggest a significant cold air mass arriving early next week, but we're not ready to bite on this solution. Stay tuned.
