NEW YORK – Even teams with plenty of talent have to go through some growing pains.
OSU experienced its fair share of them on Wednesday night in Madison Square Garden with an 82-67 loss to Stanford.
The Cowboys struggled to score and gave up a number of open shots to the Cardinal as forward Josh Owens shot 10-of-12 from the floor to lead all scorers with 21 points.
The smaller Cowboys also struggled with Stanford's size, getting outrebounded 34-25.
OSU and Stanford were neck-and-neck throughout most of the first half, including a 29-all tie with five minutes to go.
But the Cardinal outscored Oklahoma State 17-6 over the final five minutes of the half to take control for good.
Stanford led by as many as 28 points before finishing off the job with a 15-point advantage.
Oklahoma State had just two players finish in double figures – freshman Le'Bryan Nash with 16 and guard Markel Brown with 11.
Brown also led the Cowboys with seven rebounds.
The loss was Oklahoma State's first of the season as Stanford improved to 5-0.
OSU will face the loser of the Virginia Tech-Syracuse game on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
