Route 66 Marathon Weekend Begins With Tulsa 5K

The 6th annual Route 66 Marathon will hit Tulsa on Sunday, but racers got a warm up Saturday morning with a 5K event.

There was also a one-mile fun run.

More than 11,000 runners and walkers and 1,500 volunteers are expected to attend the weekend events that include a marathon, half-marathon, five-person marathon relay and more.

New for 2011 was the Mascot Dash race where more than 10 area mascots competed for bragging rights.

The Williams Route 66 Marathon will start at 8 a.m. Sunday morning at 7th and Main Street and end at Veterans Park. Check out the classic car show and live music at the park Sunday as well.
