Two Oklahoma filmmakers are putting a modern twist on the children's classic "The Three Little Pigs." And there's a new character in the story - Green Country.
The classic story of The Three Little Pigs is getting a modern make over. A twist on a familiar tale, with an Oklahoma vibe.
"When Gus was already living here, it kind of really inspired the setting of the story. Kind of a Midwestern country sort of landscape. Tulsa is just in the script," said Doug Anderson, "The Brick House" Filmmaker, Writer, and Composer.
Filmmakers Gus Cervantes and Doug Anderson started worked for a year on the script for "The Brick House." Cervantes is the writer and director. Anderson is a writer and composer. Now it's time to bring their characters to life.
"We're turning our actors into these human animal hybrids. They aren't your kind of cartoony type of animals but a little bit different," Cervantes said.
Creating the characters realistically is costly. So Cervantes and Anderson are hoping they'll be able to fund the project through a website called Kickstarter.
Their goal is to raise $7,500. They are already halfway to their goal of seeing their "Brick House" huff and puff its way into production.
"I was kind of surprised. I mean I think it's a great idea. But I was surprised at the reception," Anderson said.
The filmmakers will shoot the movie in Oklahoma. They've already scouted locations in Sapulpa, Sand Springs, and on Brookside. The cast and crew are also local. Cervantes says it's a goal to keep it a Tulsa bred production.
"We want this to be the next Outsiders. To put it back on the map as a place where films happen," Cervantes said.
Cervantes and Anderson hope to start shooting "The Brick House" in January and are aiming to send it out to film festivals come late next fall.
