The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says alcohol and excessive speed may be to blame for a pickup truck crash late Tuesday night on I-44 just west of Lewis.

The driver, Jeffrey Hays, 26, and his passenger, Kyle Diffee, 26, were taken by EMSA to a Tulsa hospital.

Hays remains in the hospital in stable condition, Diffee was treated and released.

The OHP says the pickup truck was westbound on I-44 when it left the highway, struck a utility pole and rolled over a construction zone message board.

Troopers say the impact with the message board caused the driver to be ejected.

One of the westbound lanes was closed for about an hour while crews cleaned up the crash site.
