The University of Tulsa is now 2-0 on the season thanks in part to a big performance from senior Steven Idlet.
Idlet went 9-for-9 from the field, 1-for-1 from the three point line and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe to score 23 points in the Golden Hurricane's 67-52 win over Southeast Louisiana.
TU got out to a quick 5-0 lead after Idlet opened the game with his first career three pointer on his first attempt.
Senior forward Joe Richard helped the Golden Hurricane mount a small run thanks to three consecutive baskets that put TU up 21-13. Another 10-0 run just before the half put TU up 33-20 at the break.
Tulsa shot 59 percent from the field and 57 percent from three point range in the first. Nearly half of TU's first half points came from inside the paint where TU would continue to dominate the rest of the game.
Sacramento shot 32 percent in the first half and had six turnovers.
Midway through the second Tulsa had built a 10 point lead and Idlet tallied 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting.
The Lions kept the game interesting though going on a 10-0 run, but they just couldn't compete with Idlet who came off the bench and immediately scored to give TU as spark and keep the Golden Hurricane on top.
In the end, Tulsa came away with the 15 point victory that moves them to 2-0 on the season.
Idlet's 23 points in 27 minutes of play combined with Scottie Haralson's 10 points made up for nearly half of TU's points on the night.
Joe Richard finished with eight points and four rebounds while Kodi Maduka tallied seven points, eight rebounds and one steal.
Brandon Fortenberry paced the scoring for Southeastern Louisiana with 19 points and five boards. He was helped by Antonnio Benton who finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.
The Golden Hurricane now prepares for competition in the Charleston Classic Tournament. First round play begins Thursday and Tulsa will take on Western Kentucky in the first round at 11:30 am from Charleston, South Carolina.
