TULSA, Oklahoma – The job of a goalie is simple: stop the puck from going into the net.

The training, skills and reaction time that go into successfully completing that job: not as simple.

Tulsa Oilers goalie Ian Keserich is this week's CHL Goalie of the Week. Dating back to last season, Keserich is undefeated in his last 13 starts.

"If you walk on the ice and you don't have confidence, you could look like the worst goalie out there," Keserich said. "So it's probably 85 or 90 percent confidence."

Still, having confidence in becoming a goalie probably comes with experience. The way fellow Oilers goalie Rob Mattison describes it, it's hard to be confident when trying out what many call the toughest position in sports.

"Trying to stop a small puck through guys who are 6-4 and 6-5, you're not getting a good sight to the puck," Mattison said. "You're the last line of defense and you want to show your team that you're always ready."

News On 6's Bobby Lewis set out get some personal lessons from the Oilers goalies, and found out just how difficult it is to master the goalie position.

Tulsa's first game is Friday, Oct. 28 at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
